Weight Control: New Years Resolution: 10-Day Fast: Day 6
Day 6: 72.1 kilos
Again I was up late last night. Sleepless. The fast seems to keep me awake for some reason. There’s a kind of ‘buzzing’ throughout my entire body. Hard to describe. Like my body is ‘draining.’ Maybe that’s what happens when my body is burning fat for the first time in a long while.
Despite the sleepless night, I woke up with a clear head and more energy. My morning weight was 72.1 kilos. That’s 0.1 above my goal. Hurray! For me, that’s close enough. I can honestly say I reached my goal: losing 6 kilos, moving down from 78 to 72. And I did it in just 6.25 days of fasting. A full 10-day fast was unnecessary.
Later today I’ll buy some ingredients for a “bone broth”—bones, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, garlic. I’ll use that to break my fast. The internet has several good articles and videos on how to break a fast. Care must be taken to not stress your digestive system since it’s been shut down during your fast. Vegetable and bone broths are good for the first day after a fast. More broth plus fruit and solid vegetables the second day. Heavier foods such as meats and cheeses on the third day.
As always, now that I’ve lost the weight, the next challenge is to keep it off. I’ll add some new suggestions to address that.
New Suggestions: “Take a moment to congratulate yourself. You have just fasted twice as long as your previous fast, moving up from 3 to 6 days. You also reached your goal in less that 10 days: losing 6 kilos, from 78 down to 72. Good Job! Good work! It wasn’t easy. It’s like running marathons. It takes a lot of preparation, willpower and commitment. Your job now is to keep the weight off. From now on you will only eat pastries rarely. You’ll cut way down on carbs, including bread. You will restart your Mediterranean Diet, the diet that suits you best: more fish, fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, feta cheese, olive oil; less red meat, no added sugars, no breaded or fried foods.”
